During Bayern Munich’s domination of Barcelona in Champions League action, Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber spent some rare downtime answering questions from his Twitter followers. Questions ranged from summer transfer news to expansion news. One question that Garber offered some significant substance about was the MLS possibly adding an expansion team in Sacramento.
@thesoccerdon Commissioner Garber: When are we going to see an #MLS team in #Sacramento? This market is tailor made for MLS. It would be big

@marcosbreton Interest in #Sacramento shows the increasing popularity of MLS. I plan to visit there sometime in the next month.

Currently, Sacramento is joining the USL Pro league starting in 2014. Garber will be visiting the city next month. Since Sacramento was given an USL Pro franchise, the ultimate goal was becoming an MLS franchise. In the past, USL Pro teams have had success becoming MLS teams. Orlando City SC is currently in the USL Pro and is making a serious push to becoming the next expansion team.
If Sacramento becomes an MLS team it will be in a few years. Garber visiting with city officials is the first step in a long road to becoming an expansion team. It is a viable option and let’s see what plays out after Garber’s visit. Personally, I see an MLS team coming to Orlando City, San Antonio or possibly a second New York team before Sacramento.
