Manchester City‘s new manager will have to put Carlos Tevez‘s contract situation high on his priority list. Tevez, 29, is approaching the final year on his Manchester City contract and the club needs to decide whether to cash in on the Argentine or run the risk of losing him for nothing. Tevez has been said to be keen on talking to City’s new manager to figure out his future.
Tevez has been reported to be a potential target for Italian and French league champions Juventus and Paris St. Germain, respectively. Newly promoted Ligue 1 side Monaco have also been interested in his signature. Tevez himself has said he would welcome a move to France ahead of City’s US Tour.
A fierce competitor with an insatiable appetite for goal, City should be focused on extending Tevez’s contract to keep him around for another year to guarantee them some payoff should he leave after next season. Plus, with one year left at his age, I would say Tevez is far more valuable to Manchester City than he would be in the transfer market. From a pure soccer standpoint, Tevez and fellow Argentine Sergio Aguero are arguably the most dangerous one-two punch in the Premier League. Their movement and understanding of one another on the pitch is a big test for opposing defenders.
While Tevez has had very public issues with City, he returned to the club from his self-imposed exile just in time to help them win the Premier League title a year ago. Given the way the City fans reacted when Tevez was substituted on the final match of this season, he is still beloved in Manchester. Tevez will obviously have a big say in what is ultimately decided for his future once City hires a new boss. The club, however, would be best served doing their best to keep the Argentine at the Etihad for another year.
