Bayern Fans Booing Still Hurt Treble Winning Arjen Robben

Presse Sports-US PRESSWIRE

A German Super Cup winner, Bundesliga winner, German Cup winner and of course, a Champions League winner — 2012/2013 was a record breaking season for Arjen Robben and Bayern Munich but more so for the former as he vanquished all his demons from the past. However, the Holland international has revealed that he is still hurting by the treatment he got from the Bayern boo-boys during preseason.

The Dutchman played an instrumental role during the second half of the season despite being a substitute in the first half, being second fiddle to Thomas Muller, helping the Bavarians beat Juventus, Barcelona and scoring the winner against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final.

But after Bayern’s 3-2 German Cup win over Stuttgart, the 29-year-old explained how he was jeered by some Bayern fans after missing the crucial penalty in the Champions League final the season before against his former club, Chelsea.

Speaking to ARD, Robben said, “We have a great team that is outstanding, and I am proud to be part of this team that was in another final.

“It was not easy playing after the Champions League final [against Borussia Dortmund], but I think we deserved to win tonight. I will never forget the whistles [during preseason] that I still find really bad though. I have given everything for this club, for these guys.”

With a long-term injury to Toni Kroos, Muller was moved to the center while Robben was back in the side as he took his chance with open hands and contributed to a season Bayern fans — especially the boo-boys — will never forget.
