According to reports, David Villa wants to move to Tottenham and some claim he has already agreed on personal terms, leaving the deal needed to be thrashed out with Barcelona.
The new signing would likely join the Spurs squad alongside Brazilian midfielder Paulinho, who has expressed his delight at Tottenham’s interest.
These two signings look set to be the first of many transactions made by the North London side in a summer revamp at White Hart Lane.
Others, such as Tom Huddlestone and Scott Parker, look set for the exit as Andre Villas-Boas looks to shape and style his potential 4-3-3 midfield.
Villa isn’t particularly a big player, but he compensates for his height with his class and movement in the lone striker role, and would fit in nicely as the focal point of Tottenham’s attack.
Paulinho looks likely to slot in alongside Sandro and Mousa Dembele in midfield, creating a strong, tough tackling midfield to complement Dembele’s creativity.
It’s exciting times for Tottenham fans, as Gareth Bale and Andre Villas-Boas look set to stay and the club only seems to be building.
Spurs could also look to sign an attacking midfielder in the transfer window, or perhaps a left back. If Villa and Paulinho are signed, these would be the two positions that might need strengthening.
David Villa and Paulinho are currently with their respective national teams for the Confederations Cup, due to meet in the final on Sunday.
There’s no doubt Spurs fans will be paying close attention to the two new potential arrivals.
