Netherlands U-21 international Marco Van Ginkel, 20, is reported to have held talks with Blues boss Jose Mourinho this week and is now set to complete a transfer that is reported to be worth around £8 million as first reported by ESPN.
Chelsea‘s official website declared the news that the player would be next having a medical to complete the transfer. As we anticipate the arrival of the young Dutch starlet lets take a look at his claim to fame thus far and see what Mourinho is getting in a player like Marco Van Ginkel.
In 93 league appearances for Vitesse Arnhem, all in the top dutch league Eredivisie, he netted eight goals. He is a midfield specialist who seems to embrace a more attacking front. He recently received the “Dutch Talent of the Year” award given to the most superior Dutch player under 21.
Mourinho appears to be infatuated with his ability and Van Ginkel seems like a talent for the future with the Blues. He may see some action this coming season, but more likely than not he will get loaned out for the season or partial somewhere to get some first team experience while he waits for his opportunity in a already crowded midfield competition with the likes of Ramires, Oscar, Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, etc.
I see Van Ginkel being a solid player for the Blues in the times to come, but for now he will be a solid rising star elsewhere as he awaits the chance that he signed onto with this £8 million transfer.
