According to strong emerging reports in the U.K, Christian Benteke is determined to seal his switch to Tottenham after recently handing in a transfer request.
Aston Villa acquired him from Genk, and he ended up being one of the Premier League’s most prolific strikers last season. Spurs lacked in this position on a consistent basis, as Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor struggled to find the net in large portions of the season.
In Benteke, Tottenham would have a ready-made, skillful, strong and deadly forward man to help them launch an assault on the top four — or even higher for that matter.
Aston Villa won’t be keen to part with their star man, however, as he played an intrinsic role in their Premier League survival. The Birmingham-based side are reportedly demanding £25 million for Benteke’s services, a heavy fee for a 22-year-old with only one season of experience under his belt.
Still, Spurs must focus on improving this summer and have already secured Brazilian star Paulinho. They have also been linked with moves for David Villa, Bernard and Leandro Damiao among others. Benteke would be a good option for Tottenham, overall. He has the ability to hold up the ball, win headers decisively, score from numerous positions on a consistent basis and perform against the best teams.
He showed all of these traits during his time at Aston Villa. It’s not the Tottenham way to get transfers done quickly, however, as they deviously seek to drive the price down.
Don’t be surprised if this one drags on, as it looks likely.
