Manchester United managed to keep a rather overwhelmed Crystal Palace side at bay in their 2-0 victory at Old Trafford.
The game was controlled throughout by the home side, but more was expected after Palace were dropped to 10 men before RVP netted the opening goal from the spot a the brink of halftime. In the second half, United missed some more chances until Wayne Rooney netted sweetly yet cheekily from a free kick roughly 22 yards away from frame.
We did get to see the debut of Marouane Fellaini, who was rather quiet with small touches here and there. He did not make any physical challenges as he decided to keep himself off of the headlines in his debut for his new club.
An 18-year-old youngster named Adnan Januzaj literally ruled the left flank. He kept the ball brilliantly at his feet and passed the ball so smoothly to his teammates that it was hard to believe he is still at that youthful age. He showed us that he has a bright future for the Red Devils.
United played a safer game than was expected. Of course, we all know that the three points always takes precedence, but more goals and attacking plays are expected from the league champions. Then again, this is a team that always plays it safe unless they find themselves trailing by one or two goals.
Sooner or later, Januzaj will be getting more field time and Fellaini will be starting after Everton were paid over $25 million for his services. Both of these guys can make a difference at this team by adding somewhat needed depth to an already successful club.
