The Turkish Super League continued today with a home game for Fenerbahce as they hosted Elazigspor.
The excitement by the fans were not just shown because it is a home game, but because it marked the return of Moussa Sow after a rumored spat with head coach Ersun Yanal. Well, it was about time the Senegalese international marked his spot in the starting 11.
He scored his first goal in the first half before scoring two more late in the second to complete his hat-trick. The wonderful part of this is that he showed that there are no hard feelings with his coach after being reserved for the past two or three matches by running up to him after scoring his opener.
The other goal was scored by none other than Dutch international Dirk Kuyt. Fener dominated an overall simple game as their lowly opponents struggled to create much in the final third. Fener’s defense did not make matters easy by any means as they were solid and focused throughout the entirety of the 90 minutes.
Caner Erkin continued his superb run of form with yet another assist, as his corner kick was headed home by Sow to open the lengthy scoring for the match. He has been a nuisance for opponents all over Turkey as he runs up and down the left flank, looking to stop opposing attacks while creating havoc at the other end.
Gala coach Fatih Terim reminded us all that he still could not believe how Gala did not pay a mere €3 million for his services a few years back to keep him. It is certainly safe to say that his starting spot at left-back for the national side is more than safe.
Fenerbahce are slowly but surely building a solid foundation in this league. Maybe being banned form European competition has been nothing short of a blessing as they can solely focus on domestic duties.
