Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid continue to prove Michel Platini wrong with their 16th straight victory in all competitions. Earlier this week, the head of European soccer UEFA President Platini voiced his opinion that a player from the German National Team should win the Ballon d’Or for winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Members of the Real Madrid organization came in support of their star Ronaldo for the prestigious award, arguing that the Ballon d’Or is given to the best player in the world for that year. The Blancos brass and squad members have also expressed their concern for the President of UEFA that Platini should remain impartial as the head of Europe’s governing body for soccer, and his opinions should be kept to himself.

Ronaldo continue to strengthen his campaign by leading the Galacticos to their 16th straight victory by earning both assists against Malaga away from home in La Liga. Today’s victory against Malaga breaks the record for most consecutive victory for a Real Madrid side. To put the achievement into better perspective, Germany won six games in the World Cup drawing one. Joachim Low side put together a five game winning streak and required extra time to win the finals.

Comparatively, Real Madrid’s 16 is enough for two World Cup victories. It’s important to remember that Carlo Ancelotti’s side won soccer’s most prestigious trophy earlier this season on the back of Ronaldo’s 17 goals in 13 appearances that broke the single competition UEFA Champions League record.

Platini’s opinion is based on World Cup victory, but no longer is the competition in the FIFA tournament above that of the professional game. The rarity of the tournament, which is played every four years, should not be the indicator of the best player in the world, but merely an extension of the season for the best players in the world to showcase their talents.

Ronaldo has been absolutely stunning form in 2014 scoring 55 goals and 19 assists in 55 appearances for club and country. In terms of personal achievements for the calendar year, the Portuguese Peach is second to none.
