Should Arsenal really try to sign Edinson Cavani?
Cavani has recently said that he would be open for a move to the London-based club, but there is absolutely no point to it. Arsene Wenger just signed Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck, and that was because of the extensive number of injuries that the club has sustained in the past six months.
United’s manager Louis van Gaal said that Welbeck wasn’t up to par with United’s goal-scoring standards, but that doesn’t mean they should throw away their money when they already have depth.
Welbeck has been impressive for Arsenal, scoring three times and adding two assists in league play, and also scoring three goals in the Champions League against Galatasaray. He has certainly been a great supplement for Olivier Giroud, who is constantly the scapegoat for many Arsenal supporters. Giroud has barely gotten a chance to play because of the form Welbeck is in, as well as the injury he picked up earlier in the year.
Also a problem for signing Cavani is the fact that Arsenal desperately needs a defensive midfielder or center-back. Mikel Arteta is not cutting it, and Wenger won’t deploy Jack Wilshere into a deeper lying position, suggesting a move for that spot in the works. There is an endless number of players who could fill the void for Arsenal, and hopefully Wenger will spend money where it is most needed.
It’s also hard to imagine Wenger grabbing another attacker since they just bought Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona, but Cavani could be the player to elevate the Gunners past their usual fourth-place finish, and that is something that catches the most attention from the Arsenal manager.
