Liverpool Should Sign Edinson Cavani, Not Saido Berahino

Liverpool have been linked with a move for West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino. The Reds have been less than potent in front of goal this season and are in dire need of firepower. Reports from England indicate that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers have given up on Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani to pursue Berahino. Liverpool needs to turn their season around by signing a proven world-class striker.

The Merseyside frontline has thus far failed to impress only contributing for five of Liverpool’s 33 goals so far this season. The Reds have a negative goal differential halfway through the season and are in desperate need of an effective striker.

Both Berahino and Cavani have scored seven goals each for their respective clubs, which eclipses the likes of Ricki Lambert, Mario Balotelli and the injured Daniel Sturridge whom combined for just five goals.

Although Berahino and Cavani’s contributions for their teams are similar, the Uruguayan has performed at a high level for much longer and has a reputation as one of soccer’s premier strikers.  Berahino on the other hand is 21 years old without a single notable season. The West Brom striker would be a cheaper option, but a bigger risk because of his relative inexperience. Liverpool need a quality striker now.

Brendan Rodgers must understand that his job is on the line and spend for top class quality and Liverpool should make Edinson Cavani a top priority in the January transfer window. Competition for the Uruguayan’s signature is tough, but the Reds must turn their season around.
