Real Madrid’s great run of form will continue into the New Year after lifting the FIFA Club World Cup and notching up their 22nd consecutive victory. The Galacticos’ impressive display has come in all competitions. Carlo Ancelotti and company now have two difficult games away to both Valencia and Atletico Madrid to tie the world record of a 24-game winning streak.

Both Valencia and Atletico Madrid are right in the thick of the La Liga race, occupying third and fourth respectively under Real Madrid and Barcelona. Valencia have proved difficult to beat and gave Barcelona a good run for their money. Barca were barely able to steal a victory at the Mestalla with an injury time goal from Sergio Busquet. Reigning champions Atletico Madrid were handily beaten by Valencia.

The 24th victory becomes even harder for the Blancos as they face cross-town rival Atletico Madrid in the round of 16 of the Copa Del Rey.  Real Madrid travel to the Vicente Calderon to face the team that beat them last.

Real Madrid will be eager to make the world record all their own against Espanyol if they can beat both Valencia and Atletico. The current record of 24 is held by Brazilian side Coritiba which amassed the majority of their victories in the Brazilian State Championship, with the majority of their games against lesser clubs not even in the national league called the Brazilian Serie A. Real Madrid will be eager to add another record to their illustrious history, but they will have to work for their last wins.
