Predicting the Final Score of Liverpool vs. Swansea City

Monday sees Liverpool take on Swansea City at Anfield as both teams go in search of a Premier League win to round off the year. Neither team has had the most spectacular of seasons so far, but it’s clear the Welsh side will be the happier of the two heading into 2015, especially if they can snatch a win here.

Brendan Rodgers‘ side are crumbling from their very core, and they desperately need a big win to boost their confidence. Following on from their 1-0 Boxing Day win against Burnley, it’s clear The Reds are in need to a massive goal haul to really give themselves a sense of belonging. It was goals that got them so close to the league last season, and if they are to get anywhere near the Champions League places this time around, they’ll have to start scoring with more regularity.

In their previous six matches, the Merseyside club have only managed to net seven times, which really underlines just where they’re going wrong. Last season’s runners-up may well have problems in the middle of the field that have seen their productivity diminished and their chances become less and less plentiful, but they are still creating goal-scoring chances — they’re just not sticking them away.

As pointed out in this article, it’s my belief that Rodgers needs more time in the hot-seat, so it’s up to the board and the fans to have more patience. He is a good manager who can turn things around, but it’s not going to happen overnight.

As for Swansea, they can stay ahead of their opponents with a win on Monday, and what a way to start the New Year that would be. Two wins from their last two games is going to give Garry Monk‘s men a real boost heading to Anfield after dispatching both Aston Villa and Hull City along the way. It was a real tonic for them after suffering two losses in a row against Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

If Jonjo Shelvey can produce the goods against his former club, the home fans might be forced to panic, but it’s vital they lend as much vocal support and belief to their side as they can. A long-range effort from the 22-year-old Romford man could well do some damage against a side that have long had trouble at the back.

Prediction: This one should end in a draw, with 2-2 the final score.
