Since earlier this season, Gareth Bale has been linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu, being linked primarily with the free spending Manchester United. It is, however, ludicrous to suggest the departure of the Welshman from the Spanish capital, no matter the sum. Bale has been an influential and integral part of Real Madrid’s resurgence as the alpha beast in soccer.
Although Bale’s performance is often scrutinized, the importance of the former Tottenham winger to the success of Real Madrid cannot be doubted. The Welshman scored the winning goals for both the UEFA Champions League final against Atletico Madrid and the Copa Del Rey final against Barcelona. The pair came in the dying minutes of both games.
This season, Bale was at it again in the FIFA Club World Cup final to score the second goal for Real Madrid against San Lorenzo. The only player more clutch than Bale might be Sergio Ramos.
Since his arrival in Madrid, Bale has made 66 total appearances and scored 33 goals. Selling the Welsh wizard should be as far from Real Madrid’s mind as selling Cristiano Ronaldo. Bale’s goal-to-game ratio is phenomenal as a midfielder, and for anyone that is not Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Real Madrid should not make the same mistake that Tottenham and Liverpool made by selling one of their best players for big money and buying a whole bunch of crappy players to fill their boots. After all, European soccer is a win-maximizing game.
Reports have indicated that United are willing to pay more than the 100 million euros Madrid paid just over a year ago.
