Swinging a deal and paying the staggering asking price for talented Swansea striker Wilfried Bony would be a wise move for injury-riddled Manchester City.

According to reports by the BBC and The Guardian, the Premier League co-leaders are in talks with the 9th place Welsh club for the prolific Ivory Coast goal scorer. The deal makes sense for City, who have been hit by the injury bug lately and are being forced to cope with the loss of strikers Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko. The performance of their other target man, Stevan Jovetic, has been so poor it also makes sense for manager Manuel Pellegrini to start shopping around for a new face in the squad.

There is no doubt Manchester City’s wealthy ownership group can afford to splash the “astronomical” asking price Swansea manager Gary Monk insists his team will demand. Some estimates put Bony’s value at more than $45 million, but he has more than proven his worth in his two seasons at Swansea.

Bony has found the back of the net nine times for the Swans this season. He scored 25 goals in 48 appearances last season, and also scored twice for Ivory Coast at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Great teams make good players better, and in the case of Bony, nothing could be more true. City’s offense would be a perfect fit for Bony, who is good in tight traffic and an especially deadly finisher with his back to goal. He has worked well both as a starter and a substitute off the bench for Swansea.

If you aren’t convinced and need more proof he has the class and pedigree to join a team like City, here is a look at his remarkable two-goal performance against the Citizens on Jan. 1, 2014:

Bony could be that missing piece to the Premier League puzzle that would help the defending champions break their current deadlock with powerful rivals Chelsea.

The 26 year old is currently on Africa Cup of Nations duty with the Ivory Coast and could miss up to three weeks depending how deep into the tournament the Indomitable Lions go.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham are also reported to be interested in the services of Bony.
