Liverpool Makes Major Mistake With Absolutely Woeful Transfer Season

In the end, the Merseyside outfit brought in no new players to strengthen its sorry, ragged team. Liverpool were so good last season, challenging for the Premier League title until the very end of the season, but the Reds have been absolutely woeful this year. Brendan Rodgers needed to bring in a new face to reinvigorate his lackluster squad.

It is extremely naïve of the Liverpool boss to not make new signings. All of Liverpool’s rivals have strengthen their respective squads. Not every team signed superstars, but they did add new talent to reinforce various positions in their lineup.

The return to fitness of Daniel Sturridge will lift the spirits of the Kop faithful. Sturridge scored in his reintroduction against West Ham United after a long spell on the sideline. However, Liverpool’s great form was not wrought upon by the young Englishman himself. The Reds’ amazing run last season was because of both Sturridge and Luis Suarez.

With the enigmatic Uruguayan gone and his replacement Mario Balotelli being an incredible flop, Liverpool desperately needed to sign a superstar-caliber striker to at least try and qualify for the UEFA Champions League. A striker like Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette would have been a wonderful addition and worth a pursuit.

Liverpool’s needs do not stop with a new striker. They can also use a quality goalkeeper to at least give Simon Mignolet competition to strengthen the Reds between the sticks. The January transfer window is notoriously difficult to conduct any major piece of business, but Rodgers’ lack of a signing may have been detrimental to Liverpool as they move forward.
