When a U.S. Men’s National Team player is rumored to be looked at by a team in the EPL, the first thought is usually, “Oh no, not again. Will he get playing time?”
USMNT players like Jozy Altidore and DeAndre Yedlin had a hard time breaking into the starting lineups of their respective teams while in the EPL. As two of the more famous USMNT players at the moment, their struggles have led to many fans, including myself, believing that a move to the EPL is no man’s land for potential USMNT stars.
This is not so with 17-year-old Borussia Dortmund midfielder Christian Pulisic and the rumors that Liverpool could be interested in signing him.
Pulisic is a smart, talented player who has shown flashes of brilliance in his time with BVB. The talent level at top clubs should keep him out of a starting lineup wherever he ends up over the next few years, but a move to Liverpool could up his playing time tremendously.
Jürgen Klopp has clearly shown that he is not afraid to play his young guys. He gives them chances that many coaches at top clubs do not. Look at the rise of players like Divock Origi and playing time for Jordan Ibe and Sheyi Ojo; he will do the same for Pulisic.
Borussia Dortmund is a great club and Pulisic would have continued success there, but with Klopp continuing to have success with Liverpool, there may not ever be a better time for a young American to make the move to the EPL.
