New faces in the England Nations League squad
England has made two-straight UEFA Euro finals
With England Nations League fixtures against Greece and Ireland on the horizon, all eyes are on the potential new faces that could make an impact for the Three Lions.
These matches present new manager Thomas Tuchel with an ideal opportunity to test out fresh talent, adding depth to the squad and providing valuable international experience for players on the cusp of regular involvement with the senior team. England is coming off a string of solid performances, but with new challenges ahead, a few new debutants could add excitement and versatility to the lineup.
Rant Sports has taken a look at four fresh faces in the England squad, each bringing unique skills and qualities that could shine on the international stage. Whether it’s the defensive solidity of a young center-back, the creativity of a promising midfielder, or the finishing ability of an up-and-coming striker, these players are ready to make a case for more time in England’s future lineups.
With Greece and Ireland both determined to make their mark in the Nations League, the debutants will need to bring their best if they hope to help England maintain its momentum and secure victories in these crucial fixtures.
Here is a look at the newest players, as England’s Nation League campaign continues.
Morgan Rogers – Aston Villa
After signing last January from Middlesborough in the January transfer window, Rogers has become a key player for Aston Villa. Since moving to the club, Rogers has amassed 31 games, starting 27 of them, scoring 6 goals and getting 4 assists.
The versatile forward can play as a striker or left winger; however, he’s mainly played as an attacking-midfielder/second striker behind Villa’s main man Ollie Watkins. Rogers combines so well with Watkins due to his powerful ball carrying which helps him take several players out the game. When carrying the ball, his upper body strength helps Rogers to ride challenges and hold players off him. He loves to arrive in the box and doesn’t hesitate to shoot in and around the box.
Tino Livramento – Newcastle United
Newcastle’s fullback pairing is one of the best in the Premier League currently and one half of that duo is Livramento. He’s such an athletic, strong defender with pace to catch runners and the physicality to tussle and win any duels with wingers.
Livramento reads the game well and has the patience in 1v1’s to not go to ground easily and early, but also the awareness of when he does need to make a slide tackle and time it well. Going forward, he provides an overlap option and has a consistent delivery into the box from wide areas.
Lewis Hall – Newcastle United
The other half of Newcastle’s fullback duo is left-back Lewis Hall. Hall, like Livramento, is a solid 1v1 defender who channels his aggression into duels and tackles well. Hall has good timing of when to make slide tackles and due to this, he manages to defend wide areas in a dominant fashion whilst avoiding high-risk tackles and therefore yellow cards.
Not just this, but on the ball, Lewis Hall is capable of being a very creative player. At Chelsea he would sometimes invert into midfield where he would create from central, deep areas. Hall’s passing is top quality, as is his delivery from wide areas and half-spaces. For England, he could become the main left-back due to this position being a problem area for England for so long.
Taylor Harwood-Bellis – Southampton
The former Man City CB Harwood-Bellis is a quality ball-playing centre-back and was a key player in successive Premier League promotions with Burnley and Southampton on loan spells.
As such a confident ball-playing defender, Harwood-Bellis has heavy build-up play responsibilities. He’s a backline leader who will bring the ball out of defence and his security on the ball enables teams to retain possession and sustain pressure.
