Real Improvement For St. Louis Rams In Second Preseason Game
There were plenty of mistakes from week one of the preseason for the St. Louis Rams to key in on fixing in their week two tilt with their next door neighbor rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs. Following the game, head coach Jeff Fisher said:
“What happened tonight was directly related to what happened last week. We had a really good week of practice. Not that we didn’t practice well before the Bolts game but we put some more things in and things started to fall together for us.”
That 38-3 shellacking at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts a week ago was long forgotten after the team’s 31-17 win over the Chiefs Saturday night. Quarterback Sam Bradford made some real positive strides completing 6 of 9 passes for 102 yards including a sharp opening drive capped by a touchdown strike to tight end Lance Kendricks. The club would really like to see big things from him in the red zone this year as he tries to recover from a sub-par 2011.
The defense forced four Kansas City turnovers including three fumbles showing signs of life after a dismal performance against the Colts. Veteran addition Jo-Lonn Dunbar said:
“We brought intensity, physicality. We talked about it all week, just having an identity. What is this defense? What can we hang our hat on? And I think that is what we did today.”
Along with the linebackers, the secondary was solid as free agent signee Cortland Finnegan and rookies Janoris Jenkins and Trumaine Johnson all had great outings.
After such a poor start to their 2012 action, the Rams righted the ship with authority versus the Chiefs. This should be a real confidence booster for their young roster and it shows that Fisher still hasn’t lost his touch at pulling the strings as the man in charge. Look for the league’s youngest team to really catapult off of this performance as the season progresses.
