Tiquan Underwood Reportedly Agrees to Terms with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
After just missing out on a chance to play in the Super Bowl, Tiquan Underwood will look to start fresh with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Underwood reportedly signed a deal with the Buccaneers, but it has not been confirmed by the team.
Underwood is most famous for being cut just one day before Super Bowl XLVI. His former team, the New England Patriots, released Underwood in order to promote a defensive tackle from the practice squad. He was re-signed just three days later and was given the opportunity to display his skills, but was recently cut again to make room for the incoming Jabar Gaffney, whom I will never forget because of his belligerent Twitter rant.
He also made headlines for his flamboyant hairstyle, which featured the Patriots logo on the back of his head and a high-top fade style. But I’m not here to analyze his hairstyle, so let’s just move on from that.
The wide receiver will get a chance to reunite with Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano, who was his coach at Rutgers. Tiquan Underwood played four seasons at Rutgers, catching 132 passes for 1,931 yards and 16 touchdowns. Schiano has added six former Rutgers players so far, and Underwood would be the seventh. It remains to be seen if players that are familiar with Schiano will flourish in the NFL, but Underwood definitely deserves the chance.
Although the move has not been confirmed by the Buccaneers, Underwood did tweet this:
“Taking My Talents & Hair To Florida.”
Even with the offseason additions, the wide receiver position for the Buccaneers is fluid. Of course, Vincent Jackson will be a starter along with Mike Williams, but Underwood should have a chance to make the 53-man roster when it comes to that point.
