Being the backbone of a defense is very important and for a team that defense was the biggest concern. They won’t have to worry about the cornerback position like they thought. With Cortland Finnegan gone, the Tennessee Titans have signed Jason McCourty to a five-year $43 million contract. This deal brings him to a contract through 2017 of which $20 million is guaranteed with bonuses.

McCourty was a sixth round pick for the Titans in 2009 and has easily, the past few years, taken control of the defense. He has recorded 182 tackles, four interceptions, one sack and forced two fumbles. He is also a guy that will play special teams and has recorded 16 tackles on special teams alone.

McCourty set a career high with 107 tackles in 2011 and he ranked second on the team. He also lead the team with 13 passes and tied with two interceptions.

It’s a good thing too. He showed he is worth it tonight in the week three game against the Arizona Cardinals . He had two solo tackles tonight and showed absolute power on the field. Being only 25 means that he will be around for quite awhile.

The Titans had a strong going tonight against the Cardinals, their defense was a good show to watch as well as seeing mostly Jake Locker in the game, but Matt Hasselbeck did get some playing time at the end.

There will be more to come from McCourty and the rest of the Tennessee Titans team this year as they try to improve on their 9-7 record from last season.
