Longhorns basketball look to keep home winning streak alive
Coming off a big road victory against UCLA Saturday night 69-59, the Longhorns basketball team looks to keep things rolling again tonight against University of Texas-Arlington.
Texas started off slow against the Bruins, but after a power outage at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, UCLA’s band played Kanye West’s “All of the Lights” and got the wrong team pumped up or the lights came back on for the Longhorns.
J’Covan Brown got back on track scoring 22 points and was helped out by Myck Kabongo as well who provided 13 points, eight assists, and five rebounds.
The Longhorns are still struggling with getting consistent rebounds from anyone on the team. They were led by, Clint Chapman, who came off the bench with seven boards in the game. Jonathan Holmes led all starters in rebounding with six on the night.
This was a big road win for Texas against a struggling UCLA Bruin team, and they’ll hope to keep this winning mentality as the season continues, especially as the competition will continue to get bigger and better with a big game on December 21st against North Carolina.
Tonight against in-state rivals, Texas-Arlington, the Longhorns are facing the 7th ranked team in the nation in rebounds with an average of 42 per game. They have a 4-2 record so far this season and this will be a big task for the young, undersized Longhorns to overcome.
Texas comes into the game ranked 153rd in the nation with only 36 rebounds on average per game. The young guards and forwards will need to be extra aggressive in this game on the boards if they don’t want to come away with a loss.
6-10 junior Jordan Reeves, who averages close to seven rebounds a game, leads the UTA Mavericks in rebounds. The Longhorns are led by Jonathan Holmes, who is averaging just at six boards a game this season.
We’ll need Chapman and Wangmene to come up big tonight and grab some much needed boards from a taller, better rebounding team in UTA.
Brown and Kabongo are hoping to get off to a hot start tonight, and will be looking for help from the rest of the team to keep their undefeated home record in tact.
The Longhorns will have the home crowd on their side tonight and hopefully come a way with a big win and can get some confidence through effort and crashing boards to prepare for upcoming tough games down the road.
