Rob Christy: US PRESSWIRE

Though it’s been rumored to happen since his visit to the 40 Acres last weekend, former Penn State kicker Anthony Fera will play for the Texas Longhorns this fall.

Sources say that the announcement should officially come later today, but Fera’s name is no longer listed on the Nittany Lion’s roster.

Fera, a redshirt junior who hails from Cypress, Tx., handled place-kicking, kick-off, and punting duties for the Nittany Lions last year. He was a semi-finalist for the Lou Groza award, given to the nation’s best kicker, last season. He was also a candidate for the Ray Guy Award, given to the country’s top punter. Fera was named the 2011 first-team All-Big Ten punter by ESPN.com and second-team all-conference by the media and coaches last season as well.

Last year, Fera made 14 field goals out of 17 attempts, or 82.4%. He was 11-11 in field goals inside 40 yards, 3-5 between the 40-49 yard lines, and missed his one 50+ yard attempt. Additionally, Fera was a perfect 20-20 in extra points.

Considered one of the best punters in the Big 10, he averaged 42 yards per punt last season.

With the graduation of Texas Longhorns punter and kicker Justin Tucker, the kicking game is a big question mark heading into the season. Though they have some players who would be able to perform the kicking duties, including a transfer from Duke University, Texas fans have to feel a little less anxious with Anthony Fera headed to Austin.
