The Texas Rangers walked 41 St. Louis Cardinals batters during the 2011 World Series, the most in the history of the Fall Classic. Just like the Rangers have been known for doing the past few years, they hit well and pitched poorly. The Rangers gave up four runs on walks during Game 7 of the World Series, blatantly choking away the chance for the franchise’s first world title.
The Rangers really came together as a team in 2011 after left-handed ace Cliff Lee departed for Philadelphia. Despite possessing a true ace, Texas reached the World Series for a second consecutive season. However, the lack of such a dominant arm showed during the final two games of the Fall Classic.
C.J. Wilson was first in the Rangers’ rotation in 2011 and is now a free agent. Texas cannot afford to lose its top starting pitcher two years in a row without securing a replacement. The Rangers can reach the World Series again with good hitting, but won’t be able to win it until that powerful offense is combined with solid pitching.
