The Texas Rangers may not know who will be the team’s four starting pitchers in 2012, but there’s one volunteer. On Wednesday, Rangers reliever Scott Feldman said he wants to start for the two-time defending American League champions next season.
“I want to start again, yeah,” Feldman said. “I don’t know what they’re going to do. They’ve got a lot of options with what they can do in the rotation you know and then you got CJ [Wilson]. Who knows if he’s coming back or not. I don’t know what’s going to happen but yeah, I mean I want to start.”
Feldman referred to Rangers 2011 ace CJ Wilson who is now a free agent. If Wilson does not re-sign with Texas, the door would be wide open for Feldman to step into a starting role. However, Rangers general manager Jon Daniels has already said he’s considering moving closer Neftali Feliz into the rotation, regardless if Wilson is back or not.
Either way, Feldman would definitely be worth a look as a starter; he started for Texas from 2008 through 2010 before being replaced by Derek Holland this past season. It’s likely we’ll see Feldman’s infamous beard on the mound often in 2012, especially if Wilson signs elsewhere.
