Keith Aulie Traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Carter Ashton
The 4th deal of the NHL trade deadline has found General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs trading one of their young defenseman in Keith Aulie to the Tampa Bay Lightning for prospect Carter Ashton.
The 22-year-old Aulie has split time between the Maple Leafs and the team’s AHL affiliate the Toronto Marlies.
Aulie, who sits ea 6′ 6″ and 217lbs, has only played 23 game this season for the Maple Leafs as he was continually demoted a called up throughout the season.
Aulie was originally draft by the Calgary Flames in the 2007 draft. But Aulie was brought over to Toronto with Dion Phanuef in a deal that sent the likes of Matt Stajan to the Calgary Flames.
Ashton is a former first round (29 overall) draft pick in the 2009 NHL Draft. Ashton has not played an NHL game yet but has registered 17 goals and 27 assist in 33 game in the WHL this season. Ashton has excellent size and speed, can play either wing position and has a nose for the net. Ashton needs to work on his defensive play as much as any other young forward. Though Ashton’s career potential could be a power forward with good upside.
