Leo Komarov Hoping to Land a Deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs
If Leo Komarov dream comes true, he should be wearing the blue and white of the Toronto Maple Leafs come this fall. As this 25-year-old Finnish forward says he is set to make the jump to the KHL to the NHL level. Komarov believes that after the IIHF Hockey Championship is completed he could sign an entry level deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
“I hope so — as fast as possible,” said Komarov. “If they need me and they give me a good contract then I will go over there.”
The only concern with Komarov’s current situation is that he has one year remaining on his contract with the HC Dynamo Moscow team of the KHL.
Komarov was first drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 6th round (180th overall) the 2006 NHL Draft. Komarov started playing with different junior teams before he signed a four year deal with the HC Dynamo start in the 2009/10 season.
Internationally Komarov was the captain of Team Finland at the 2007 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in Sweden, his play and leadership lead his country to a Bronze Medal. Later in 2011, Komarov participated in the IIHF World Championships in Slovakia, where Finland won the gold medal.
As for Komarov’s statistical performance, his best season came in 2010/11 with HC Dynamo where he recorded 14 goals and 12 assists. Another stat that concerns me is Komarov’s relatively high PIM count which won’t sit will in the NHL if that continues.
