Jesse Johnson-US PRESSWIRE

DeMar DeRozan’s dad was watching him live on Wednesday night, so a little extra pressure was added to the swingman out of USC. He responded well, by having one of his best games of the year, scoring 25 points on 50% shooting, while drilling 4 three-pointers.

Unfortunately, DeRozan’s stroke wasn’t enough to carry the Raptors to a victory, with the Raps ultimately losing 105-99 on the first night of their season long 7 game homestand. The Raps hung tight throughout the whole game, but didn’t have enough in the tank down the stretch to pull out a win.

Jerryd Bayless left the game with what appears to be a re-aggravation of his previous ankle injury, but hopefully he isn’t sidelined long. Bayless was just starting to play well, and it’s unfortunate to see him hurt again.

Let’s get to the report card:

Offence- B+

Positives

Very solid all around offensive game for the Raptors. DeMar DeRozan led the way with 25, and James Johnson chipped in 15.

The team racked up a very solid 24 assists, and the ball was moving well tonight.

Negatives

They only got to the line 17 times as opposed to 37 from the Bucks.

Defence- D

Positives

They created 19 turnovers, and James Johnson swatted 3 shots.

Negatives

Just an atrocious game defensively for the Raps. This Bucks squad isn’t a top offensive team yet they ripped the potent Raptors defence to shreds. Carlos Delfino torched his former team for 25.

Rebounding- B

Positives

The small forwards had nice games on the glass tonight. Linas Kleiza and James Johnson pulled down 8 and 7 boards respectively.

Negatives

Just a mediocre night on the glass for the Raptors tonight. Ed Davis and Amir Johnson got abused by Drew Gooden as he grabbed 14 off the glass, and the Raptors got outrebounded 47-41.

Overall, this is one everyone needs to forget about. The Bucks shot the ball better in every category tonight, and they simply out-matched the Raps. The Raptors will start the tough stretch of their homestand Friday night, as the Celtics come to town. The Lakers will follow. Oh boy.
