Raptors Post Game Report Card: Toronto Stuns Boston Celtics at ACC
A loss to the Milwaukee Bucks followed by a win against the Boston Celtics is certainly a topic for discussion amongst Raptor columnists. Are the Raptors ‘tanking’ against bad teams for a higher draft pick, or did they simply have a great game tonight? Regardless, the Raps pulled off a huge upset Friday night, taking down the powerhouse Celtics 86-74.
Surprisingly, the Raptors were in the driver seat the whole game, and never looked back after a hot start against the struggling Celtics squad.
Jerryd Bayless was out, and is listed as day to day with a sore ankle.
Let’s get to the report card:
Offence- B-
Positives
DeMar DeRozan continued his encouraging play with 21 points. Jose Calderon was also phenomenal with 17 points and 14 assists.
James and Amir Johnson also contributed nicely, with 26 points in total.
Negatives
Aside from the ones listed above, the Raptors didn’t provide much offence. However it was enough to get the W.
Defence- A
Positives
What a game. Jose Calderon man-handled Rajon Rondo, shutting him down to 5 points. Kevin Garnett lead the way for the Celtics with 17, but aside from that the Boston squad failed to generate much offence.
James Johnson and Amir Johnson had two blocks a piece, and the squad forced the Celtics to 17 turnovers.
Negatives
Not much to say here.
Rebounding- A
Positives
The Raptors outrebounded the potent Celtics squad 42-34. Amir Johnson and Aaron Gray carried the Raps with 23 rebounds combined, while James Johnson grabbed 7.
Negatives
Not much here either. While the rebounding margin wasn’t substantial, it was a solid overall rebounding effort on both sides by the Raptors.
Overall, this was a great game for the struggling Raptor squad. This was a statement made by the young Raps, and will serve as a huge confidence booster. They won’t have much time to celebrate with the LA Lakers coming to town on Sunday.
