Toronto Raptors Sign Landry Fields To Three Year Offer Sheet
The Toronto Raptors have signed restricted free agent guard Landry Fields to an offer sheet worth 19 million dollars over 3 years. Pricey? Absoultely. Does it make sense? Yes, it actually does.
Whether people realize it or not, Bryan Colangelo has created a problem for the New York Knicks. The Knicks whole plan on the Steve Nash sweepstakes was to offer Fields as trade bait to the Phoenix Suns in a potential sign and trade scenario, allowing Nash to make the most money. Now, even if the Knicks do match, they cannot use Fields in a sign and trade scenario.
The Knicks have three days after July 11th to match, however it is doubtful. This puts the Raptors in the front seat of the Nash sweepstakes and a positive announcment could be made any day now regarding the signing of the superstar point guard.
If the Raptors do retain Fields, he brings tremendous potential and a solid offensive skillset to the table. He can play shooting guard and small forward, and should add another weapon to the Raptors arsenal of swingmen. There is a good chance he starts at small forward if everything pans out and he’s kept.
It will be interesting to see how the Knicks respond. More info will be given when available.
