Josh Beckett: Booed at Fenway, Not Apologizing for Golf
Boston Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett has been taking quite the heat following Thursday’s disastrous performance against the Cleveland Indians in which he allowed seven runs on just 56 pitches and didn’t even make it through three full innings. Normally, this wouldn’t be considered as big of a deal for player that was scratched from their previous start due to soreness, but for Beckett’s case–it’s become quite the problem.
The Red Sox pitcher has been receiving plenty of criticism this week for his decision to play golf on his day off–especially after Thursday’s loss to the Indians. Normally, players deserve every right in the world to do what they want on their day off, but Beckett has been anything but professional with the way he’s handled the situation.
Instead of giving the media and fans who pay money to watch the Red Sox play each game, Beckett needs to act like a man when he does something wrong. Instead of getting all defensive by saying players only receive a certain amount of days, admit that maybe it was a mistake to play a round of golf that early after an injury and it will never happen again.
Boston is already a mess to begin with and this latest issue with Beckett is just one of many issues that have made the first month and a half of the 2012 season one to forget.
