A Dwight Howard trade could finally end our long national nightmare. Reports are flying that the Orlando Magic are close to sending the disgruntled center to the Brooklyn Nets in a complicated deal. It could involve up to 14 players and four separate teams.
As far as I can tell, the deal looks something like this. Howard would go to the Nets, Brook Lopez and draft picks would head to Orlando, Kris Humphries and picks would go to the Cleveland Cavaliers and Marshon Brooks could be moved to a fourth team for a draft pick or two.
Trust me, this deal is complicated as it sounds. I can not remember a trade for a superstar that was this complicated. The amount of breakdowns that could happen are off the charts.
However, I feel like this deal will get done. A lot of smoke has came out about it during the last 36 hours. If a deal fails now, I expect that Howard will not end up being a member of the Nets.
If it happens to turn out that way, the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, and Atlanta Hawks will look to get involved. The need for a complicated trade would be moot with those players. The Lakers would send Andrew Bynum and some other pieces. The Rockets have a lot of young players and picks. The Hawks have Al Horford, picks and maybe Josh Smith.
If these three get involved, expect Jason Richardson or Hedo Turkoglu will be sent out to clear space on the Magic’s cap. That is another big part of this trade.
It has been a long time coming, but we might finally end the national nightmare of Dwight Howard trade rumors.
