Rant Preview: Phillies Scratch Cole Hamels, Tom Brady Will Play Week 4 Preseason

Here’s the Rant Preview for the evening of Wednesday August 29, 2012.

Philadelphia Phillies Scratch Cole Hamels

The chances of the Phillies making the playoffs for the sixth straight season is pretty much a lost cause at this point in the regular season, but that doesn’t mean members of the team can’t help fans from a fantasy baseball perspective.

Unfortunately, any fantasy baseball owner looking to take advantage of Hamels picking up another win as they head into the final weeks of the season will be missing out on Wednesday, when the starting pitcher was scratched by Philadelphia due to a stomach illness. Instead, the Phillies have called up Tyler Cloyd to make his MLB debut against the New York Mets after posting a 15-1 record with a 2.26 ERA in the minors this season.

Tom Brady Will Play Week 4 of Preseason For New England Patriots

Most starters sit out the final week of preseason to avoid any risk of injury that could keep him out during the regular season, but Bill Belichick wants Brady playing against the New York Giants on Wednesday to make sure he’s fully ready for the start of the regular season. Brady and the offensive line struggled against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3 and playing part of Week 4 gives them one last shot to fix their problems before kicking off the regular season against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 9.

Hopefully, this plan by Belichick doesn’t backfire, considering he made the decision to sit all of the starters for the team’s Week 2 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
