Here’s a look at the top five teams from the 2012 NFL Power Rankings for Week 2.
Who would have thought that Matt Ryan would end up being the top performer in Week 1 by throwing for 299 yards to go along with three touchdowns? What’s even more impressive–Ryan managed to record a rushing touchdown on his own to give him four total in Week 1.
If Ryan can play at this high level all season–the Falcons have what it takes to be strong contenders in the NFC.
Forget all of the questions surrounding Peyton Manning‘s health–he looked phenomenal in his first regular season start with the Broncos. Manning looked like his old dominant self running the no-huddle offense and Denver has to be thrilled for what’s in store this season with the future Hall of Famer under center.
Joe Flacco looked like a completely different quarterback on Monday night and the Ravens appear to have a high-powered offense that could do some damage in 2012. With Flacco, Ray Rice, and Torrey Smith along with one of the league’s top defenses–this team could certainly make another run at the AFC Championship.
Even if it was against the Dolphins, the Texans showed why they were one of the top contenders in the AFC this season. Matt Schaub, Arian Foster, and Andre Johnson give this team one of the best offenses in the NFL and combine that with a stellar defense—Houston could be fighting for a No. 1 seed in the playoffs.
Is this the best overall team in the NFL? They sure looked like it on Sunday as they handed the Green Bay Packers their first loss at Lambeau Field during the regular season in 13 games.
On another note—how impressive did Alex Smith (20 of 26 for 211 yards and two touchdowns) look running that 49ers’ offense?
