Here’s the latest edition of Rant-O-Matic for October 12, 2012:
Stanford Cardinal vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Even though Stanford has won three straight games in this series, Notre Dame should have the edge in this one thanks to having one of the nation’s top defenses.
The Fighting Irish have been one of the biggest surprises of the 2012 season after a 5-0 start that consists of a defense that is allowing just 7.8 points per game so far to their opponents. While the defense will be the main factor once again, the Cardinal’s best chance of winning on Saturday will be finding a way to shut down Everette Golson, who has recorded at least 178 rushing yards in three of the last four games.
South Carolina Gamecocks vs. LSU Tigers
South Carolina continues to be one of the biggest surprises of the 2012 season and is coming off a big 35-7 blowout win over the Georgia Bulldogs last weekend to make a huge statement that they should be considered one of the top teams in the SEC this year. As for LSU, they look to bounce back and remain in the National Title hunt after falling to the Florida Gators in Week 6 as the offense struggled once again.
Saturday’s game between these two SEC rivals will certainly be a defensive battle, but it’s difficult not to like the Gamecocks in this one, mainly because they appear to have what it takes to make a run at the BCS Title this year.
