There are plenty of adjectives and or nicknames to describe Detroit Lions standout wide receiver Calvin Johnson. Record-breaker, Explosive, or even Megatron. Well, according to Chicago Bears cornerback Charles Tillman, Johnson is the “LeBron James of football”. A statement like that is liable to start plenty of debate, so here we go. Which NFL stud is the most LeBron-esque?
Lebron’s 6’8, 250lbs. frame is hard to come by in the NFL. While Tight Ends are the largest and have the most NBA-like bodies, that kind of size is just incredible. Johnson is listed as 6’5 and weighs in at 236lbs., which doesn’t exactly make him a featherweight.
The record breaking wide receiver has a lot of similarities to LeBron. However, domination is the word that goes hand in hand with both studs. Statistically speaking Johnson has led the league in receiving yards for the past two seasons, meanwhile James has one scoring title and three MVP trophies. Both make their presence felt game in and game out.
On the other hand, let’s explore Tillman’s statement a little bit. When I first heard the LeBron comparison my mind first came to Cam Newton. Last season’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, this Carolina Panthers stud has a lot in common with LeBron. The confidence that both of these athletes display is second to none. Both are firm in the belief that if they can’t do it, it can’t be done. As a quarterback, Newton naturally has a larger impact than Johnson. Just as LeBron scans the floor looking for an open man, Newton has to be spot on to receivers down field.
Although hypothetical, this is a very fun conversation that can be taken plenty of avenues. Reach out to us with your opinion!
