For a few years now, rumors have swirled about the possibility of the Sacramento Kings being on the move–mainly to either a different location in California or Virginia. Now, it appears the Kings could be moving as early as the 2013-14 season to a city that has been anxious to have a basketball team again for a couple of years now.
The Maloofs are currently in the process of finalizing a deal with Hansen Ballmer–who are based out of Seattle–that would move the Kings to the city where the SuperSonics used to play. There’s been talk for a few years now about the city of Seattle getting a new basketball team and the fans would certainly love one more than anything considering all of the success surrounding the Oklahoma City Thunder–so let’s hope for their sake this deal goes through all the way.
While gaining a new basketball team will be great for Seattle as a city and their fans, it still has to sting a bit that they missed out on a great team in the Thunder that has one of the best duos the league has to offer in Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. This new team in Seattle can try as hard as they want to match the success of the Thunder over the last couple of years, but there’s a good chance they won’t even come close to that mark for at least a few years.
Congratulations Seattle fans–looks like your city is finally getting that new basketball team after all.
