Carmelo Anthony Will Sit, Top Kevin Durant for NBA Scoring Title

Kevin Durant won’t win a fourth consecutive NBA scoring title. After sweeping the title for the past three seasons, Durant will sit out of the Oklahoma City Thunder‘s last game, meaning Carmelo Anthony will be the scoring champ this season. Melo really had the award already locked up because even though he’s sitting, Durant would have had to score 70 points against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday to snatch the title.

Melo will finish the year with 28.7 points per game, with is half a point higher than Durant.

Believe it or not, this will be Anthony’s first scoring title. That’s extremely hard to believe considering green-light shooter used to be an extremely immature player and still isn’t exactly a team leader. You remember his days of jacking up shots from every spot on the floor when he was with the Denver Nuggets, right? And what about him refusing to come off the floor when Nuggets coach George Karl sent in a sub for him? Yeah, this is the same guy.

Anthony has been much better with the Knicks, but he’s still growing and not nearly an elite player yet. He’s an elite scorer, but not a top-tier player…yet.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether Anthony can lead the New York Knicks to the real title, but that’s another Rant.
