After last week’s trade that sent Darrelle Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the New York Jets find themselves with two first-round picks in the 2013 NFL Draft on Thursday and it will certainly be interesting to see which direction they end up going with. The Jets have numerous areas in need of improvement and while they’ve expressed interest in West Virginia‘s Tavon Austin–the team is also in the perfect situation to make a trade and gain an additional draft pick out of it as well.
There are numerous teams that have expressed interest in landing Austin for the 2013 season as he’s already being compared to Percy Harvin and one team that comes to mind who may consider a trade is the St. Louis Rams–who hold the No. 16 pick. If St. Louis is afraid of missing out on Austin to New York at No. 13, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they strongly considered trading up since they have another draft pick as well.
Even if the Jets aren’t completely sold on using one of their picks on Austin, they certainly have an advantage heading into Thursday night as they could use one of their picks that could be “used” on leverage to work out a trade with a different team. Austin has the potential to make an immediate impact as a rookie considering he’s not only effective in the passing game, but the ground game as well.
Only time will tell when it comes to what the Jets end up doing, but it will certainly be interesting to see where Austin lands once the draft begins Thursday night.
