It’s a shame that we never got to see Ricky Ledo play at the collegiate level because it really could have been special. The Providence Friars are an improving program under head coach Ed Cooley and Ledo — a Providence native — was his top recruit. Ledo was ruled as a partial qualifier prior to the start of the 2012-13 season however, and was never able to take the court. It was a similar ruling to what Kansas freshman Ben McLemore was given back in 2011. Ironically enough, McLemore decided to return to school the following year and now he has the potential to be the No. 1 overall pick this upcoming June. As for Ledo, well he’s not waiting around, he’s entering the 2013 NBA Draft now.
Ledo bounced around a number of high schools, so his paperwork and transcripts were not up to par in the eyes of the NCAA. Ledo was widely considered to be a top 30 prospect within the high school class of 2012, prior to commitment to Providence. At 6-foot-7, Ledo has an increasing upside and if he can impress in workouts, he may be able to increase his stock even more so. At this point however, Ledo is looking like he could go anywhere in the second round.
