People say stupid things all of the time because unfortunately–that’s just the type of world we live in. But when it comes to Riley Cooper of the Philadelphia Eagles dropping racial slurs on camera, that just takes stupidity to a whole new level.
For starters, how did Cooper not think about the consequences to saying a racial slur on camera? We live in a world where things get posted on Facebook and Twitter before they actually happen–so why on earth would you do something like this at a concert?
At this point, I have more respect for Justin Bieber as a sports fan than I do Cooper as a player. This is a guy who Philadelphia was ready to embrace as their “savior” to Jeremy Maclin as the No. 2 wideout and now–he’s hated more than New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys fans living in the City of Brotherly Love. Think before you speak Riley–especially when considering the fact that some of your teammates and opponents are part of the race you thought it would be so smart to rip on when you were attending that country concert.
It’s a shame to see this happen to a player like Cooper who the Eagles set high expectations for next season with the injury surrounding Maclin and it will be interesting to see how he bounces back. One thing is certain with all of this–which is Cooper will most likely have a target on his back from opponents throughout the 2013 season.
