NFL Game of the Week: 49ers vs Seahawks Headlines Week 2

The third edition of the Manning Bowl is looming in Week 2, but there’s a better matchup that deserves the title of top NFL game on Sunday. Before Russell Wilson arrived, the Seattle Seahawks didn’t get much primetime love, but now they’re in for a ton of it, especially when they play their division rivals, the San Francisco 49ers. As Carrie Underwood says, we’ll be waiting all day for Sunday Night Football this week as two titans of the NFC clash in a contest that will give us an early look at how the West will be won in 2013.

In Week 1, the 49ers took down the Green Bay Packers in a rematch of last year’s divisional playoff bout and things got chippy to put it lightly. After two blown calls and a few scuffles, Colin Kaepernick embarrassed Green Bay’s defense again and showed why his team is the defending NFC champion.

On the flip side, the Seahawks looked relatively vulnerable against the Carolina Panthers, but managed to squeak out a win behind 320 passing yards from Russell Wilson. The one player who was shut down for the most part in that game was Marshawn Lynch, so look for the player nicknamed “Beast Mode” to bounce back in a big way at home against Seattle’s big rival.

So what to expect on Sunday night? A lot of Kaepernick and Russell. The game may be in Seattle with two really tough defenses doing battle, but we’ve got a surefire shootout brewing in the Great Northwest. Look for Kap to get things done with his legs and create even greater hype surrounding his blossoming NFL career. The 49ers will win this big-time matchup, but don’t count the Seahawks out down the road.
