NFL Rumors: Washington Redskins’ Mike Shanahan Expects High-Scoring Game?
Did Washington Redskins Head Coach Mike Shanahan jokingly give away expectations for a high-scoring game Thursday night against the Buffalo Bills?
Speaking with the media Tuesday he was asked about how he was going to deal with “the kicking situation” as it was called. Shanahan said that whoever kicks off will have the next field goal or extra point, then kickoff again then the next guy will go up.
This year’s competition is between Graham Gano and Neil Rackers.
He assured everyone that the kickers will get more than enough opportunity to kick in the game, but then said something very interesting.
“I’m sure they’ll be a number of extra points,” Shanahan said, citing an attempt at humor. However, I don’t think he was joking. I think he does expect a lot of points to be scored Thursday night. In fact, I think he may have already given Robert Griffin III the green light to air it out—but that’s just me. Even though it is a preseason game and you want to see how everyone executes the plan on the field, there’s a certain level of convincing that I think will occur. He doesn’t want doubts starting off the NFL season. I think we should expect the Redskins to play this game like a seasonal game.
The Redskins want to make a statement, no matter what game it is. Expectations are high for RG3, and for those who play alongside him. Remember, the Redskins are out of excuses. It’s now or never.
