The Washington Wizards are a team on the verge of exploding and should not be overlooked this season. Their 23-59 record doesn’t exude much confidence, but their is too much talent on this roster to fail for much longer.

John Wall is the unquestioned leader of the group, as he is ready for a breakout sophomore season. Last year in his rookie year, Wall averaged 16 points per game, 8 assists and 5 rebounds a night. If it wasn’t for Blake Griffin and his “second take” season, Wall would of been the unquestioned Rookie of the Year. This season, he will be seeking an all-star appearance, alongside a Wizards playoff berth.

Scoring most of the assists that Wall distributes is rising star Andray Blatche. He has been on the verge of stardom for two years, but has gotten little national attention. If the Wizards start winning, this stud will get much of the praise. Last year Blatche averaged 17 ppg and 8 rpg while starting just 63 games. If he stays on the floor, there is no telling how much damage he could do in the east.

Another up-and-coming talent of the NBA is JaVale McGee who nearly averaged a double-double last season with 10 ppg and 8 rpg. He also tied Serge Ibaka for third in the league with 2.4 blocks per game. McGee is the real deal and will not allow anyone to lay one in under his basket. I believe some year he will average 3 blocks per game or more, alongside his double-double prowess.

Nick Young is the player everyone has been waiting to emerge, much like the aforementioned McGee and Blatche. Young has a silky smooth jump shot and if he would ever stay on the floor long enough, he would be a major contributor in the John Wall-led offense. Everyone will score will Wall running the show, including Young who could do it at a high rate.

Another player who made the most of playing time last season, namely because Young was hurt, was Jordan Crawford. The former Xavier star who dunked over LeBron James in a summer camp was unbelievable down the home stretch last season. Crawford amassed all expectations as he averaged 16 points per game.

This is a young and talented offensive team. If the Wizards can learn how to play team defense, there is no telling how high their ceiling can be. I envision Washington making a bid for the playoffs, but falling a little short. I believe next season will be the Wizards year, as Wall will be entering his third year. Right now however, expect Washington to be a burden to a lot of good teams, but temper your expectations to the tune of another 20-win season.
