In a move that is hardly surprising, the Washington Wizards have fired maligned head coach Flip Saunders after a 2-15 start to the 2011-2012 NBA season.
The Wizards have struggled mightily so far this season to put together any sort of cohesive offense and have been lackluster on defense, showing a complete lack of effort at times and general inadequacy at others. Most importantly, the Wizards’ star duo of Javale McGee and John Wall have been more vocal in recent weeks about the team’s lack of respect for Saunders and their inability to get on the same page with the long-time NBA head coach.
With the right coach, the Wizards could at least compete in the Eastern Conference given two young superstars like Wall and McGee are the core of the roster, but the more likely scenario– at least for this season– is that the team will limp along to the finish line as one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference and will look ahead to the 2012-2013 season to try and right the ship and prevent what talent they do have from searching for greener pastures as soon as they have the opportunity to do so.
