Is ‘Big Buff,’ Dustin Byfuglien getting too big?
Dustin Byfuglien made his court appearance in Minnesota on Monday because of his boating incident last August. Byfuglien ended up coming out ok with the boating while impaired charged dropped and being served a small fine and community service for carless boating.
Aside from what actually happened in the proceedings, pictures surfaced on Twitter of Byfuglien arriving and then leaving the courthouse, which made for some entertainment. The reason these photos caused such a stir was because of how big the Winnipeg Jets defenseman looked. Not, barbells and protein big, but cheeseburgers and beer big.
Have a look for yourself at Byfuglien arriving and then leaving after the trial.

After the Twitterverse got a good look at the most recent pictures of Big Buff, quite a few zingers were thrown around at his expense.
Dustin Byfuglien looks like he literally ate Kyle Wellwood.

While there weren’t pictures showing how big Byfuglien was last summer, there were unconfirmed reports that Buff weighed over 280 lbs. when police stopped him on his boat. I doubt he ballooned that much in that offseason, but it’s still enough to make you wonder about his conditioning when you add the chatter of last summer to the pictures taken on Monday.
Ever since Byfuglien was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 8th round of the 2003 draft, scouts were concerned with his conditioning. Everyone has seen what Byfuglien can do when he’s motivated and puts in the work. Look no further than what happened in the spring of 2010. We all know he’s capable of being a beast.
However the last two summers have to make you think just a little bit. Is it a huge problem? Maybe. Can it be fixed? Definitely.
As long as Dustin Byfuglien reports to camp in good shape, there isn’t much to worry about.
If there’s a lockout, that might be a different story.
