Over the course of the week, NFL.com’s Dave Dameshek and ESPN.com’s Paul Lukas have unveiled rankings of every current uniform of the four major (MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL) professional sports leagues. Their lists are based off of logos, color schemes, stripes, etc.
The Winnipeg Jets didn’t get harsh criticism on their uniforms from either writer, but didn’t quite garner much praise either. As you might have guessed based on that information, the Jets were somewhere in the blob fondly known as the “middle of the pack.” Dameshek ranked the Jets at 64 out of 122, while Lukas put them at 72 of 122.
Dameshek was disappointed that the team did not stay close to its original Winnipeg roots in the new design. He does like the way two-tone blue is used however. Lukas calls the Jets jersey “nothing special” and adds that “only one NHL team that should be wearing a maple leaf on its chest, and Winnipeg isn’t it.”
As for Dameshek’s complaint about the team not reaching back to its roots, I think that in due time, when the Jets get an alternate jersey, it will in some way remind fans of the old Jets. I have to agree with him on the use of the two-tone blue, it’s a sharp look the way the Jets have implemented it, even if so many teams are using this color scheme in their alternate uniforms. I also love the font that they use. It’s very sharp and makes me think “speedy” but not in a NASCAR way.
I have to disagree with Lukas on his maple leaf comment. The logo is a tribute to the Royal Canadian Air Force and you can’t do that type of logo without some variation of the red leaf in it. The dark-light reds and silvers give the logo some edge, while keeping it simple and synonymous with the Jets.
New jerseys are always met with mixed reviews and I’m not surprised Winnipeg wasn’t high on these lists. Over time, more people will learn to like the Winnipeg Jets’ uniforms and we might see them climb up the ranks.
Do you like Winnipeg’s uniforms? Where would you rank them among all the other pro sports franchises?

. Lukas calls the Jets jersey “nothing special” and adds that “only one NHL team that should be wearing a maple leaf on its chest, and Winnipeg isn’t it.” ?????
who are you, where do you get off saying that Winnipeg should not be wearing a maple leaf on their jerseys, are you even Canadian? having a maple leaf on anything represents the fact that we are in Canada, that the team represents Canada, and the fact that it represents Canada when there are so few Canadian teams in a country that actually appreciates the game of hockey gives the Winnipeg Jets not only the right to have a maple leaf on its Jersey, but a requirement. get your facts straight, learn something about the culture which exists in the community that is supporting the team before you make stupid comments like that!
You do realize that’s a quote from Paul Lukas, who wrote the rankings he’s referring to, not the author of this article, right?
