Wisconsin Badgers Crush South Dakota State, 59-10
MADISON, Wisc. – The #6 ranked Badgers clobbered South Dakota State, 59-10, on Saturday from Camp Randall. For the fourth straight time this season, the Badgers rolled over a weaker opponent, moving their record to 4-0 in 2011. South Dakota State just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time as Russell Wilson exploded for 345 yards passing and three touchdowns with no interceptions.
The Badgers Heisman candidate exploited a weak defense, hooking up with new favorite receiver Nick Toon early and often. Toon had his best game in his collegiate career, grabbing seven balls for 155 yards and two touchdowns.
Wisconsin went 60 yards in seven plays, taking just three minutes and twenty-five seconds off the clock for their first score of the game. Montae Ball scored his first of two touchdowns on the day, as he cruised in from five yards out. Ball had 15 carries for 88 yards and two touchdown’s in short work on Saturday.
After a Kyle French field goal put the Badgers up 10-0 heading to the second quarter, James White broke free for a 49-yard touchdown run with 6:28 remaining in the first half. James White rushed the ball nine times for an incredible 98 yards, while catching two balls for 16 yards out of the backfield.
Wisconsin allowed a field goal for South Dakota State’s first points of the game. The Badgers answered right back with a touchdown, boosting their lead to 24-3. Nick Toon pulled in his first of two TD’s in the game, as Wilson hit him down the sideline for an exciting 59-yard run after the catch for the score.
Wilson hooked up with Toon one more time before the half ended, from two yards out. Wisconsin drove 74 yards in nine plays, using less than two minutes off the clock as they increased their lead to 31-3 heading into halftime.
The Badgers first possession of the second half ended in similar fashion to their last drive of the first half. This time Montae Ball punched it in for his second score of the day and a 38-3 Wisconsin lead. The Badgers used up a little over five minutes on the clock, as they drove 81 yards in 10 plays.
Just like the first three games of the season, most of the reserves came in for the majority of the second half. Wisconsin scored three more touchdowns before the end of the day, tuning themselves up for their first Big 10 battle of the season next weekend.
Next Saturday #6 Wisconsin (4-0) will face #8 ranked Nebraska (4-0) in a Big 10 showdown, which could have National Championship implications in the first conference game of the season. The Big 10 couldn’t ask for more when they added the Huskers to the conference this past off-season. This will be the first Big 10 game for Nebraska, and it couldn’t be any bigger as it will take place in Madison, under the lights for a nationally televised broadcast.
