Breaking: North Carolina Tar Heels Trio to Enter 2012 NBA Draft
Jeff Curry-US PRESSWIRE

After a few days of contemplation, a power trio of North Carolina Tar Heels has made the decision to forgo their remaining years of eligibility and enter the 2012 NBA Draft.

Junior guard Kendall Marshall, sophomore forward John Henson, and sophomore guard/forward Harrison Barnes have declared their decisions to move on to the next level of basketball competition.

North Carolina head coach Roy Williams had the following words of praise for each of the three young men:

When I recruit a young man I talk to them about their ultimate goals and each of them are taking that next step toward reaching the goals they spoke to me about. I am extremely pleased for them. They have meant so much to our basketball program and the University of North Carolina.

I thank them for everything they have contributed to Carolina Basketball.

I really look forward to watching Harrison, John and Kendall play in the NBA. I know theywill be very successful. They have been and will always be great Tar Heels.

Of the trio, Harrison Barnes has the most polished all-around skill set and should make the quickest impact at the NBA level.

John Henson, while freakishly athletic and gifted with plenty of raw skill, will need hours upon hours of time in the weight room to be able to compete with centers at the professional level.

Kendall Marshall is an outstanding floor leader with a natural instinct for the game who should be a nice backup in the league.

It cannot be understated how large of a role this trio of outstanding players had for the 2011-2012 Tar Heels, but if Roy Williams’ coaching past is any indication, it won’t be a good idea to sleep on the team in 2012.

With a first-tier recruiting class entering this fall, highlighted by 6’10′, 280 pound center Joel James, the Tar Heels will be in the mix in Atlantic Coast Conference play come this fall.

At North Carolina, it isn’t about rebuilding, it’s about reloading.
