The Atlanta Braves did not want to rush Tim Hudson back before he was ready. They gave him enough time to stretch out and recover from the offseason surgery he had on his back. They have managed a successful streak and came into the day 1 game behind the Washington Nationals in the NL East. No one would deny that they were glad he is returning.

Hudson returned to the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon and pitched well in his return. He led them to a win, but also into a tie in the NL East with the Nationals. He pitched five innings allowing six hits, two runs, two walks and six Ks. Hudson was on a pitch limit of 100 and notched 96. He gave up a number of base-runners, but was able to avoid serious damage.

Here is Hudson’s take on his outing today (read his quotes here):

“It felt great to be back. It was a tough game, well fought on both sides. It was great to come out on the good side of these close games. I felt good. I started off a little shaky but I felt like it ended well.

It was a good day for me just because I was able to go out there and compete and get out of some jams. Those guys were battling me all day. It was fun to get out there and compete with some big league hitters.”

The Braves are obviously pleased with Hudson’s start. It is a great start to the season for him. He can build on this start and continue to be the Braves’ leader in the rotation.
